Math games for kids that teach one thing at a time
MathGym is a free collection of math games for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade. Every page trains one exact skill - the 7 times table, addition within 20, subtraction with regrouping, division facts - so a child practices what the class is learning this week instead of a random mix. Pick a skill, press Play and the first question is on the screen in about a second. All math and arithmetic games are free, online, and need no sign-up or download.
Each game page has three parts. On top you see the thing itself: the times table, the number bonds or a worked example. In the middle is the game: a quick-answer trainer, a 60-second speed test, memory pairs, Make 10, or the gates runner, where a crowd runs through the gate with the right answer. Below that a print button turns the same problems into a worksheet with an answer key, and some downloads are printable board games for two players.
Free online math games that work on a phone, a tablet or a school Chromebook
The games load only when you tap Play, so the pages open fast even on a weak connection. Buttons are big enough for small fingers, the keypad is on the screen, and the sound is off until you turn it on - handy in a classroom or at bedtime. Progress, stars and stickers stay in this browser; there is no account to create and nothing about your child is sent anywhere.
Educational math games by grade
Educational games for learning mathematics work best when they match what the class is doing. Not sure where to start? Choose the grade. The kindergarten page counts and makes 5 and 10. In 1st grade children add and subtract within 20. In 2nd grade they work within 100 and learn to regroup. The 3rd grade page is all about multiplication and division facts, and 4th and 5th grade add multi-digit numbers, long division and mental math. Each grade page lists what children learn that year, following the Common Core, and links every skill to its game.
For parents and teachers
Parents get a five-minute routine: one round of the game, a look at the "work on these" list, and a printable sheet of exactly those facts. Teachers get a projector mode with big digits and Team A / Team B scores, a share link or QR code that opens the same game on pupils' devices, and worksheets in up to four versions so neighbors don't copy. Our UK visitors will find the same maths games and numeracy games online, from the early years (EYFS, Reception) and KS1 to Key Stage 2 (KS2), with the times tables up to 12 × 12 for the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check.
